FAQs
Answers to
the most frequently asked questions about implementation.
How long does it take to get ACUMEN
Book up and running?
Generally implementation takes about 120 days. An Implementation
Specialist is assigned to your company for the full
150 day period. Your company will need to designate
a manager for the project from your end. For more information,
please see Implementation
Program.
I already have a file server.
Can I run ACUMEN Book on that machine?
If the file server is only being used for print services,
and it meets the minimum server specifications for ACUMEN,
this may be acceptable. A consultation with our technical
staff is recommended before installation. See Equipment
for more about servers and ACUMEN Book.
Why do I need a dedicated file server for ACUMEN?
There are a two major reasons why you want to run ACUMEN
on a dedicated server machine. The first is performance.
Other programs running on the server use up precious
processor time, denying that time to ACUMEN. The second
is troubleshooting. With other programs running on the
server, troubleshooting is more complicated because
of incompatibilities between various processes.
I already have a Novell network. Can I use it
for ACUMEN?
ACUMEN is compatible with Novell, but does not use Novell
to operate. A database server running Windows 2000 is
used to host ACUMEN. That machine cannot be a node on
the Novell network. However, ACUMEN client machines
can be nodes on the Novell network. Visit Equipment
for more information on hardware and networks.
What database does ACUMEN use?
4th Dimension (4D), a modern 4GL that enables us to
rapidly improve our functionality and keep pace with
the evolving business environment. 4D is a multinational
corporation. For more information visit www.4D.com.
Can off-site users connect to
ACUMEN over the internet?
Yes. ACUMEN has full support for remote access over
the internet through Windows Terminal Server® or
Citrix®. Using a DSL or Cable modem connection,
the user experience is very close to being in the office.
With T1 or high-speed DSL connections, users can access
ACUMEN over the internet without Terminal Server®
or Citrix®. We can provide you with a demonstration
of ACUMEN running on Windows Terminal Server®. Find
out more at Remote
Access.

Interchange optional module.
